Licence agreement
This is the same text the app shows before you activate a key, and the same file that ships beside the exe. It was written to be read.

This agreement is between you and the owner of Format ("we", "us"). By activating a licence key or using Format, you accept it. If you do not accept it, do not use Format.
This document was written to be read, not to impress. It is not legal advice, and it has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Consumer law in your country may give you rights that this agreement cannot take away.
1. What you are buying
A subscription that lets you use Format on one PC while it is active. You do not buy the software itself, and you do not get its source code. The tiers are:

The trial starts by itself, needs no key and no account, and runs once on a PC. When it ends Format asks for a key.
Pro and Max are paid subscriptions, monthly or yearly: the current price, the billing period and how to pay are stated where you subscribe, and may change. A change of price never affects a period you have already paid for.
Undoing what Format has changed never requires a licence. History and revert stay available with no key, after the trial has ended and after a subscription lapses.
Updates are included while your subscription is active.
2. One key, one PC
A key locks to the first PC that activates it, identified by the PC ID shown on Format's activation screen, and will not activate on another. Reinstalling Windows keeps a key working. Replacing the motherboard, or moving to a different PC, means asking us to clear the lock; we will do that for a genuine change of hardware, and we may refuse it where a key looks shared.
Activation needs an internet connection, and Format re-checks your key from time to time afterwards. Between checks it works without a connection for one week; after that the tweaks lock until it can check again, while History and revert keep working. Your key is checked against our own server; no third-party licensing company is involved. Section 1 of the privacy notice sets out what is sent.
Your subscription has an end date. Format warns you a week before it, and when it passes the app locks the tweaks but keeps History and revert. Renewing extends the same key — there is nothing new to enter.
You may not share, resell, publish, sublicense or give away your key. If you do, the key is banned and no refund is given.
3. No refunds
All payments are final. A key cannot be recalled once it has been issued, so we do not give refunds for any reason, including a change of mind, a PC that does not get faster, or a subscription you forgot to cancel.
You can stop a subscription at any time, and it then runs to the end of the period you have paid for. Stopping it does not refund the current period.
Use the trial first. Thirty minutes on your own PC, with everything Pro unlocks, no key and no account, is there so you can see how Format behaves before any money changes hands.
Where the law of your country gives you a right to cancel a purchase of digital content, that right applies instead of this section: by activating a key you ask for immediate delivery and, so far as the law allows, give up any cancellation right that depends on delivery not having started.
4. What Format does to your PC
Format changes Windows settings: registry values, service start types and the active power plan. Every change is recorded with the value it replaced, and any session can be reverted from History. Format can also create a Windows restore point before applying a batch, and we recommend letting it.
You use Format at your own risk. We cannot promise a particular result: how much difference a tweak makes depends on your hardware, your games and your version of Windows. Some tweaks turn off Windows features, which is explained on each one before you apply it.
5. What you may not do
- Decompile, reverse engineer or modify Format, except where the law says you may.
- Resell, rent or redistribute Format or a key.
- Use Format to damage someone else's computer, or on a PC you are not allowed to change.
- Present Format as your own product, or use our name or logo as your own.
6. Liability
Format is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost data, lost profits, downtime, hardware faults or any indirect loss arising from your use of Format. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to what you paid for your licence.
Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury or fraud.
7. Ending this licence
Your licence ends if you break this agreement, in particular by sharing or reselling your key. We ban a key with our licence provider, which stops it activating and stops it passing the next re-check. A copy already running keeps working until that check, at most one week.
8. Changes
We may update these terms for new releases. Format asks you to accept the terms again when their version changes. The terms you accepted continue to apply to the release you have installed.
